Corny Point CFS a family affair

Corny Point Country Fire Service brigade is truly a family affair, so it was fitting the young sons of member Andy Bennett came along when the YP Country Times photographed the brigade.Corny Point CFS members include Anthony Haywood, Luke Liddiard, Christopher Liddiard, Anthony Liddiard, Josh Liddiard, Mark Filmer and Bronte Detmar; at front is Andy Bennett with sons George and Ned. Andy’s father, Lewis, is also a current member and his late grandfather, George, was active in the brigade. Most of the 12 active members are connected in some way. The Liddiard family, well known in the Corny Point area for several generations, makesup one-quarter of the brigade. Most members have a long family history with the small brigade, located on the western tip of the foot of Yorke Peninsula.Current Corny Point CFS captain, Mark Filmer, is the son of Gordon Filmer, one of the brigade’s founding members, who now lives at Warooka.“In a small community it’s natural everyone knows each other but we welcome anyone who has the commitment to help out,” Mark said. “The sense of community is really evident at Corny Point, as is the camaraderie
