Loyal group at Brentwood

They may be small in number, but Brentwood Country Fire Service captain Allan Cross says the group they have is loyal, with younger members the key to the brigade’s future. They currently have 12 registered members, eight of those active firefighters.“As a small community we only have a small pool to pull new volunteers from, and we are already dragging them in from a wide area. But at this stage we’ve got a few younger members coming through who will keep us going,” Mr Cross said.“My three boys are all members, and hopefully they won’t have to move for work so we can keep them. I’ve been a CFS volunteer for 26 years and there’s no doubt once it gets in your blood you’re fairly well committed.“Our core numbers have always been stable and the volunteers we do have are loyal. We are light on for personnel during daylight hours, but have never had a call out we haven’t been able to attend.”
