Port Vic needs day crews

Port Victoria’s Country Fire Service brigade has a stable, dedicated, experienced and well-trained core membership. However, not too many of its members are available throughout the day to crew.Almost all nine active members work out of the town, leaving the station struggling to crew whenever an emergency happens during work hours.“We have needed new members for the past six years or so,” captain for more than 10 years, Jon Carmichael, said.“We have 21 members on our books but only nine who are fully active.“Daytime crewing is damn near impossible because everyone works elsewhere; some drive trucks interstate, I’m self-employed so I can be anywhere between here and Adelaide
